Hi, this time we will discuss Formula E, an environmentally friendly race that uses electric fuel.
Formula E Cars Gen 1 What is Formula E
Formula E is a single seater electric car race. The championship is owned and promoted by Formula E holdings. This championship was first conceived in 2011 by Jean Todt, the first race was held in September 2014, in Beijing, China.
Although new, Formula E is now in its seventh season, starting in Beijing in 2014. Over the past seven years, Formula E has undergone many changes. In the first season, all the cars are identical; the chassis designed by Spark Racing Technology with Dallara as its technical partner is design specifications, such as the battery designed by Williams Advanced Engineering, the Hewland gearbox and the McLaren Applied Technology Motor/inverter/ECU. All the teams were only able to change the car's settings and develop the software that controlled the powertrain. For the second season, the powertrain was opened up for manufacturers to develop their own motor/inverter/gearbox setup. From a full specification format, the series soon evolved into a diverse technical formula, with many variations on the powertrain format; not all worked out, and some layouts continued into the formula's final season. For the first four seasons, battery capacity and powertrain output limited the car to only half the full race distance. Therefore, the driver must swap to another identical but fully loaded car in the middle of the race. While not an exciting or great thing for electric car racing, it is a must, but will be an obstacle to overcome with further development as the series progresses. Since the 2020–21 season, Formula E has been the FIA World Championship series, making this single-seat racing series the first series other than Formula One to be granted world championship status.
How is the race format?
All events started with 2 training sessions in the morning, namely a 45 minute opening session, followed by a 30 minute session. Drivers are allowed to use full power in qualifying, which is 250 kw (355bhp).
The qualifying session lasts about 1 hour. The racers were formed into 4 groups consisting of 6 people in each group. Each group is given 6 minutes to record their best time. Full power may be used during qualifying. Since the second season the six fastest drivers will return to the track to fight for the super pole.
The race has a duration of 45 minutes. In the first four seasons the drivers had to make pitstops to change cars. Then when Gen 2 cars appear, this is no longer needed because the car can last until the end of the race and Formula E car tires are designed to last until the end of the race so there is no need for a pitstop to change a tire, Pitstop is usually done to replace a broken tire or a car that is damaged. repair the car body. In the race the maximum power is limited to 200 kw(268bhp).
Formula E Cars Gen 2 Point system
Points are awarded to 10 drivers who finish using the FIA standard system (25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1). The driver who achieves pole position is awarded an additional 3 points, while the driver who scores the fastest lap (if he finishes in the top 10) gets one point (two points in the first 2 seasons).
Fanboost
Formula E has an interesting thing where at each race, fans can vote for their favorite driver via various social media channels to give the racer additional power. Voting starts 6 days before the event and closes 15 minutes after the event starts. The five racers with the highest votes get additional power which is used in the second half of the race
Attack mode (Attack mode)
In the fifth season, the Championship introduced the Attack mode, which is a system where each racer gets an additional 25 kW of power by traveling through a designated area instead of the race track. The duration and amount of additional power available is determined shortly before each race by the FIA in anticipation of teams using it and incorporating it into race strategy. All attack modes must be activated at the end of the race, but do not need to be spent. Starting from season 6, the additional power is increased to 35 kW. If there is a yellow flag or Safety car Attack mode should not be activated. In addition, 1 kWh will be reduced.
